The Swan City Rotary Club is proud to have given back over the past 17 years. This year’s Lottery proceeds will go towards the following community programs and projects:

Army, Navy, Airforce Veterans Unit 389
Lottery proceeds will be used towards the replacement of the Army Navy Dishwasher. The current equipment is approximately 25 years old. The Army Navy Air Force Veterans Club is a place utilized by various community groups, events, weddings, and more.

Bezanson Agricultural Society
Lottery proceeds will be used to renovate and improve the Bezanson Agricultural Society’s facilities and programs. The Bezanson Ag Society is pursuing the addition of a new Bezanson Regional Community Cultural Centre onto the Bezanson Memorial Hall. Groups such as the Bezanson School, 4H, Junior Forest Wardens and Parents and Tots all use the hall on a weekly basis along with numerous other groups.

Camp Tamarack Association
Lottery proceeds will be used to support the 9 week summer camp program. Funds will provide scholarships for children that cannot afford the registration fees. No child is refused a week at camp. Funds are used towards swimming fees, craft supplies and more.

Grande Prairie & Area Safe Communities
Lottery proceeds will be used to promote public safety and reduce the incidence of injury. Proceeds will provide:

  • Pedestrian Safety Interactive Kit which will include traffic light and crosswalk safety games, pedestrian scavenger hunts, safety video’s as well as resources for youth to take home to reinforce the message of pedestrian safety would be included in this kit.
  • Kitchen Safety Simulator which will teach youth the importance of safety practices at home in the kitchen while making meals or snacks.
  • Injury Prevention Station which will educate youth on the importance of safe practices while playing sports which in hopes it will prevent sports related injuries and reduce the amount of concussions in sports.

Grande Prairie Army Cadets
Lottery proceeds will be used to provide adventure training equipment to the Army Cadets. The Army Cadets are a national program for young Canadians ages 12 – 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the Army activities of the Canadian Armed Forces. Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their communities and learn valuable life and works skills such as teamwork and leadership.

Grande Prairie Council on Aging – Seniors Outreach/ Meals on Wheels 
Lottery proceeds will be used to help operate the Seniors Outreach and Meals on Wheels Office. Seniors Outreach has over 6000 client files and provides a one stop shop resource centre for seniors, their families and their caregivers. They offer financial and retirement advice and bring all the resources together so that no needed service is missing when a senior needs them.

Grande Prairie Gymnastics
Lottery proceeds will be used towards coaches training. The Grande Prairie Gymnastics Club has been a part of the Grande Prairie community for over 40 years. Their vision is to inspire a foundation of excellence within the community.

Grande Prairie Public School District Education Foundation
Lottery proceeds will be used to support the Nutrition Program and the annual School Grants Program. The Nutrition Program provides students who do not have adequate nutrition at home with healthy snacks and meals and allows them to focus on learning by having their basic needs met. The annual School Grants Program allows the Foundation to support programs and initiatives identified from the school that are not able to be funded through regular school board allocations.

Rotary After Five
Lottery proceeds will be used for local, regional, provincial, national, and international initiatives. Rotary After Five focuses on youth initiatives and increasing capacity for all groups. Rotary is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders and problem solvers who come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad.

Spinal Cord Injury Alberta
Lottery proceeds will be used to support the peer program as well as towards encouraging clients’ active participation in SCI Alberta special events and workshops. Proceeds will also support one time purchases of equipment and repairs and support clients who have medical trips.

Suicide Prevention Resource Centre
Lottery proceeds will be used for the program delivery of “Tough Enough to Talk About It.” Suicide is the leading cause of injury death in Western Canada. In AB at least one person dies by suicide every day and 75% are men. Tough Enough to Talk About It helps prevent suicide by reducing the stigma of mental health issues and provides information about how to help and resources for people with mental health concerns. Tough Enough offers workplace presentations, leadership seminars, and videos to address mental health in the workplace – starting conversations that may save lives.

Swan City Rotary Club
Lottery proceeds will support other community projects in and around our region. The Swan City Rotary Club is a service club with the guiding principles of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership. Rotary is a global network of neighbors, friends, leaders and problem solvers who come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad.
